Hunger

In many parts of The United States, there are many issues that occur daily, but one of the biggest issues is hunger. Hunger affects 35 million people and their ways of living and surviving. Hunger can affect people’s lives and daily routines because they struggle to get food for themselves and their families to survive the day. Some people who struggle with hunger issues need help. The government and the people can help the ones who need food around the United States. Hunger is a big risk factor in the United States. While our government has done little things to help with the hunger problem in the United States, there is still more than the government can do to help. Support the people out that life in the food deserts and help the people who live in high poverty areas.

The first really good way to end the food desert issue is to add a food market or two in the area. If the government and the food market industry did this, they could slowly but surely end the issue of food deserts here in the United States. Many people feel like they have not done this because they will lose money. They probably think that the people who live in these food deserts do not have a lot of money and they have gone to work for a long time to save up just so they could go to their food market stores and get the food they have. One may think that if they build a miniature food market in the food deserts that it would fine, because they do not have to restock a lot and they do not have to spend more money in building a bigger food market. If the food market store gets really populated and busy, maybe they could add on to it.

The last way that we could end the food desert issue is to add food co-ops. Food co-ops are food outlets that have locally grown foods and there is no big head chef that controls the place it is all consumer-run, and the food co-op has a local owner as well. According to shareable, these food co-ops have helped the people out in Minnesota and North Carolina. These small food co-ops will be so helpful in the food deserts because everything is locally grown and made, so everything will be fresh and affordable. The food co-ops would also provide jobs for the people in need. If we can start doing at least one of these things, that would be a great start in the right direction into the end of the food deserts here in the United States. Not only will it end food deserts it will also create jobs for the people who need them, so they support themselves and their families as well.

In many parts of the United States, there are parts that have poverty in some way or another. A place that has poverty is a place that is mostly run-down, and the people do not have as much as the people who live in cities. Those people who do live in poverty need help from the government to help them and to help the area that they live in. There are many ways for the government to help those people who are in need.

One of those ways is to increase employment rates around the United States. According to raisingofamerica.org, the government can help and invest in fixing old bridges, building more transit, switching to clean energy sources, and help with schools and vital services (“9 ways”). This may seem like a no brainer, but many people would not do that, and some people who see the people who live in poverty would not hire them, but if the government steps in and tell help those people get the jobs that have been listed, they would make money and start to save and improve their lifestyle.

Some people who already have a job do not make enough for themselves and their families. According to raisingofamerica.org if a person makes $7.25 an hour that would come up to $15,080 annually for full-time work not counting the taxes after. That is not enough for someone to support themselves and their family, but if the wage would increase to $10.10 that would come up to $20,200 that is over $5,000 more than a person would make which just over a $3 increase to their wage. If the government did that more people would get jobs because they would see that they can make over $20,000 a year and that wage would support them and their families. Farming is a big and hard job to do by yourself and with tools that are bad. According to raisingofamerica.org if the government steps in and provides some money to the people who farm to get bigger and better tools for their farm and the farmworkers, they would get the job done faster and better, which would generate more money and faster. This sounds true, if the farmworkers have better tools to work with, they can get the job faster which would make them more money to support themselves and their families.

There are many ways the government can step in to help the people who need assistance with food and poverty around the United States. Some people might say that the government is already doing enough to help the people who are in need. That is not the case.  One of the ways for the government to step in and help is to improve federal nutrition programs. The federal nutrition program has bad foods and unhealthy foods and most of the time they do not have enough to feed everyone. According to alliancetoendhunger.org if the government would step in and improve and expand federal nutrition programs so they can provide people at risk of hunger with the resources they need to buy food for an adequate diet that would help the people who are incapable of getting a job and provide from themselves and their families. If the government would improve the federal nutrition program the people who are in need would get a healthier and better diet for themselves which would give them a better life and fewer diseases and issues with their bodies in the long run. Another step that the government can do is open more assistance programs. According to alliancetoendhunger.org If more assistance programs were to open people who are in need would get help with their welfare and supplement nutrition. This would help the people who are in need in the long run with their health and make sure they keep their bodies healthy with as few issues as possible.
